Plattekloof

Plattekloof, once part of the De Villiers Graaf family trust, is now one of the more sought after suburbs to the north of Cape Town. Lines of comparison have been drawn with Constantia’s Steenberg region with its 40 hectare golf estate, due in part to the prevalence of palatial homes built in large security estates - regarded as the most exclusive in the Western Cape - and the views - from here you can see right across to the city, including Table Mountain and the ocean.

Plattekloof backs on to the Tygerberg hills and shares a border with De Grendel wine estate, which sits on top of this same hill and forms part of the Durbanville Wine Route that makes staying in this area such a draw card.

However the high demand for property in this part of the world is mostly due to the ease of access, which makes it such an ideal base for visitors to Cape Town, aside from the views. Cape Town’s International airport is an easy trip; Blaauwberg’s beaches are easily reached as is the centre of Cape Town, provided you don’t venture out during peak hour; the business hub around the Tygervalley, the Winelands and, did we mention the views from here?

Durbanville Hills wine estate is virtually on the doorstep of Plattekloof and the other farms on the wine route are easy to reach. A little further afield but still an easy day trip are the beautiful wine farms of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Wellington, Paarl and Pniel. Plattekloof is close to the beautiful beaches of Bloubergstrand with panoramic views of Table Mountain.

The Tygerberg Nature Reserve is in Welgemoed, close to Plattekloof, where you can do a 7.5 km hike and, on a clear day, experience views over the entire peninsula from the top of the reserve. Plattekloof is also close to the Bellville golf course and has its own shopping mall although Canal Walk is only about 10 minutes away.
